Fire Alarm System Details

So we're forced by the Berkeley Fire Department to upgrade to a new level of fire protection. As we make fundraising calls alumni are asking the following question: "Didn't we just go through a major fire sprinkler upgrade? What is the deal?" The deal is it's a municipality forcing it's residents to be VERY cautious. I find it hard to disagree with saving lives. The last time we reached out to alumni for financial support it was a sprinkler pipe system that will now connect to the new alarm system. This system sets off audible alarms on all floors giving men a chance to evacuate, and contacts the fire department so trucks will roll!

It might also improve our future RUSH efforts. Not only will we save lives (maybe) but if we go ahead and install the system, we will be ahead of most other houses at Berkeley--a majority of frats are currently unable to install the upgrade. So if we get the system in, and have a major "named" party like Cave, it improves our social standing in the greek system, and becomes a marketing advantage.

If you are a lawyer and would like to lead the charge to force Berkeley to give frats a waiver, as some houses want, call us.

The alarm vendor has provided us with a quote which totals over $30,000 and includes:
1) One control panel (a computerized box that connects all the detectors in the house
2) 29 Horn strobes
3) 9 manual pull stations
4) 22 addressable smoke detectors (hard wired to the panel. Not the same as residential ones).
5) Backup battery supply

That's a lot of hardware. The system goes in all the public spaces.
